The Mt. Baldy Expedition Announcement Lecture took place in the spring of 2004 at Dogmatic Gallery in Chicago, IL. The lecture (delivered to a seated audience and accompanied by slides) served as the official beginning of The Mt. Baldy Expedition. James Barry (President, The Mt. Baldy Expedition) and I (Captain, the Boutez en Avant) told the exciting story of Ferdinand Magellan and Enrique de Malacca's first circumnavigation of the world and gave a detailed explanation of our plans to build a dinghy and sail to Mt. Baldy in the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. We included details about our expeditionary sailing dinghy, the Boutez en Avant, Lake Michigan weather conditions, and the history of the sand dune, Mt. Baldy.
